As another
summer drawns slowly to a close, the activity surrounding
the Virginia Homegrown Music Festival
lands on Browns Island in Richmond and goes into over-drive.
Known
as a state to treasure its deep historical roots and
legacy, Virginia has been a hotbed for innovative
and culturally rich products. In any direction traveled,
the pride of Virginia can be felt in everything -
from the food to the wine and definitely the music.
With this in mind, Brown Coffee Productions has embarked
on a path to bring together the best the state has
to offer. And in the end has created what could turn
into a tradition all its own: the Virginia
Homegrown Music Festival.
As its
third year approaches, the Virginia Homegrown Music
Festival continues to build upon its strong musical
foundation by merging the musical talents of some
of Virginia's best known bands and introducing others
that few have heard - but will soon be talking about.
With the return of national recording artists, Cracker,
the stage is set for a day of unforgettable music.
Add in the unique acoustic sounds of Keller Williams,
Richmond's own Fighting Gravity and seven-piece energy
of Hackensaw Boys and you are sure to get your fill
of local musical talent. But it doesn't stop there.
Corey Harris multiplys the equation with his unique
blend of reggae and blues while Wrinkle Neck Mules
sums up the current lineup with their own pure blend
of great Virginian country music. In addition to these
artists there will be a second stage with some great
singer songwriters to be announced soon.
Yet
it is not a day of only music, but also a focal point
to showcase the local micro brews, wines, foods and
products celebrated around the state. The festival
is also a way to raise awareness for two local Richmond
charities. The Virginia Homegrown Music Festival will
help these charities by raising money and much appreciated
awareness. First the Richmond Whitewater Club (RWC)
is committed to bringing community recognition and
recreation back to the beautiful rivers flowing through
Richmond and the surrounding areas. The Greater Richmond
Environmental Action Trust (G.R.E.A.T) is helping
to encourage environmental education and foster programs
that promote conservation, restoration and preservation.
